US Senate (Oath or Affirmation)
Oath Required By The Constitution And By Law To Be Taken By Senators:
"I, A__ B__, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God." (5 U.S.C. 3331.)

This is the Oath taken by all members of the United States Senate. As I have heard Senator Kerry speak about our involvement in Iraq and our relationship with the world, I have grown increasingly concerned that he is failing to live up to that Oath.
Two main themes seem to be coming from Senator Kerry regarding our efforts in Iraq:
1. President Bush has acted unilaterally and as a result has pretty much destroyed our relationships with our European allies (read France and Germany). This is needlessly costing American lives in Iraq. He has a plan to correct this, gain their confidence and convince them to contribute directly to security efforts in Iraq.
2. President Bush has no plan to bring about a secure and free Iraq. This has let to general chaos in Iraq, a total lack of security and the needless deaths of American soldiers.
And, if elected, Senator Kerry will both re-engage with our European allies and convince them to join us in our efforts in Iraq and he will enact the Kerry war plan to bring about a change in our actions in Iraq that will secure the peace and save American lives.
See, here is the rub. Senator Kerry is stumping across America saying he has the answers to these two issues. He can fix them. He can save American lives. Yet, until he is elected, he will not reveal these plans. So, until then Americans can just continue to die! If Senator Kerry is truly confident that he can fix our relations with Europe, thus increasing the security of both Europe and the United States, and that his war plan can save American lives on the ground in Iraq, he is morally obligated to begin the effort immediately!! Not if he is elected, but immediately!! Do his comments mean that if he is not elected he will take no actions that he feels will protect America and American soldiers??
Senator Kerry could give his campaign an enormous boost by actively acting to bring Europe on board and by publicly promoting his detailed plan to change the faulty direction of our efforts in Iraq and to show President Bush the path to success. He should be on the stump each day, pushing our allies, providing viable options in Iraq and showing he is a leader with a clear plan and he is not afraid to stand up and drag the world along with him. After all, if that is what he plans to do if elected, why should a single American Soldier die through his inaction prior to the election.
